Description:
The Church of Mary from 1754 standing tall above the vineyards of Mount Sladka Gora is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Slovenia. It is built in typical Baroque style with playful towers and an undulating roof. Inside the church are frescoes by Franc Jelovšek and a magnificent statuette of the miraculous Holy Virgin on the main altar. The central settlement is not serried and it is situated to the west of the road Podplat - Poljčane. The visitors like to comr because of the widely known baroque pilgrimage church, but at the same time they are also touched by the magnificent wine-growing landscape. The Šmarje-virštanj tourist wine-road winds through these palces, offering the best of wines and culinary art. The intact nature enables our spirit and eye to relax. Hikers often ascend the hill to St. Michael where they have a wonderful view of Dravinja valley and Pohorje; in the opposite direction nice weather enables them to see the whole of the Kozjansko region.
