| Senj is situated right on the 45th parallel, meaning that it lies exactly half way between the Equator and the North Pole. It’s a statistic celebrated in the form of a large concrete sundial, which stands in a small seaside park near the northern entrance to the town. Designed by Zagreb sculptor Josip Cmrok, the sundial takes the form of a horned crescent held aloft by a stocky column – a shape inspired by the Glagolitic letter ‘S’. There’s a good view of Senj from the sundial, making it a popular stop-off for camera-wielding holidaymakers driving down the coastal highway. |
