Description:
Its fitting that Nerežišća, once the capital of Brač, should have the most impressive church on the island. The Church of Our Lady of Carmel dates from the 13th century but was enlarged over the centuries and took on its present Baroque appearance in the 18th century. It has a typical Dalmatian belfry. The church stands on a fine square where public proclamations were once made outside the Prince’s Palace, the centre of the island administration which no longer stands. The church has eight altars. The main altar is made of marble and has a fantastic medieval painting of Our Lady of the Rosary.
