Description:
The church of Saint Demetrius was built in 1830 with voluntary contributions of local merchants and craftsmen. It is one of the biggest churches in the Balkans. Since St. Dimitrius was built during Ottoman (Turkish) rule, it was not allowed to be decorated on the outside. This was compensated by an abundantly decorated interior. The opening scenes of the film "The Peacemaker" were shot in the church, as well as some "Welcome to Sarajevo" scenes.
