The cave is part of a settlement made ​​by the church intended for worship of the Archangel Michael, and the farm of Corte Finocchio with a "Iazzo" (shelter for shepherds and their flocks). The site is located near the old cattle track leading from Matera to Bari Inside the cave-shrine are the remains of frescoes, including a Madonna and Child, on the arc that introduces a long dromos wide room, is depicted a Christ surrounded by the Apostles. Recent investigations have established that the interior of this cave is completely covered with thousands of carvings and graffiti, crosses representatives, five-pointed stars, hexagons, symbols in all shapes and sizes, and votive inscriptions, dating from the fifth century. A.D. until 1400. Testifies to the number and variety of recordings, considering the fact that the most famous cave in the municipality of San Michele in Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano contains only 200.
