Monument and Military Cemetery in Log pod Mangrtom
Secular monument, statue
no
Behind the civil cemetery in Log pod Mangrtom lies the Austrian military cemetery from World War I. The Koritnica Valley was in the background of the »Isonzo Front«, so the cemetery was already arranged in the first years of the war. On the mounds are iron crosses with the names of the buried soldiers. The graves are arranged on two terraces; the lower is encircled with spruces and larches. On the passageway between the two terraces is a concrete sculpture by the Czech sculptor Ladislav Korfanek. The sculpture shows two soldiers gazing towards the summit of Rombon, for which the majority of the soldiers buried here died in fierce battles. Plates with dedications to the brave defenders of Rombon in Slovenian, Serbo-Croatian and German are built into the base of the sculpture.
