| This monastery, in honour of the Virgin of the Snows, came into being thanks to a generous donation by Katarina Zrinski in 1404, following the death of her husband Stjepan Frankopan. The Paulines came to the area in March 1404. Evidence has found an early gothic stage in the church and the monastery. Damaged by fire, on its 600th birthday the church received a restored wooden altar as the Baroque detailed 18th century altar had been damaged in the Homeland War of 1991. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is said to be among the most beautiful altars. |
