| It was founded in 1946, as an institution in charge of the music-and-stage activity but, in 1976, its foundation rights were taken over by the Assembly of the City of Belgrade. For decades, Jugokoncert played an important role in the creation of musical life not only in Belgrade, but also in the territory of the entire former Yugoslavia. It was the founder, co-founder or executive producer of a whole range of important music festivals, organizations and institutions, as well as special projects. Jugokoncert is paying the greatest attention to the presentation of domestic artists and their creations both in the country and abroad. Also, the agency has won a name for itself through presentation of the most attractive foreign programs in our community.
Jugokoncert has been the longtime executive producer of the Belgrade Music Festival (BEMUS), the oldest and the most reputable international music festival in the country, which enjoys the status of a cultural event of special importance to Belgrade. In 2002, BEMUS became a member of the reputable European Festivals Association.
Today, Jugokoncert cooperates with numerous institutions, domestic and foreign partner organizations and agencies, and presents itself as their reliable partner in the implementation of various projects, programs, and events – BELEF, International Review of Composers, Belgrade Cello Fest, International Festival of Harp… Additionally, the agency is known to the public as the agency implementing the programs in the area of international, intercity cultural cooperation, and the cultural cooperation between the states. Apart from some fifty concerts in Serbia and several dozens of projects abroad, Jugokoncert, within its regular concert seasons, presents to the Belgraders sixty-odd concerts a year. They are featured by high-quality selection of performers (both domestic and international), a stressed interest in contemporary and attractive presentation of music of versatile genres and by paying attention to animation of the public of different ages and interests.
Jugokoncert nowadays employs 15 people with professional skills who are daily dedicated to the recognition of contemporary, urban forms of music presentation, to make the local creativity recognized, and who persist on the quality of the local musical life. |
