| The early 13th century church, clearly in Benedictine style, has a somewhat disjointed, irregular layout, the result of a series of building phases. It has a nave and two aisles with a single apse and no transept. After the radical restoration work completed during the 1950s-1960s, the 18th century bell tower was demolished and rebuilt a few metres away.
The discovery of several bronzes of the god Hercules, on the site where the church stands today, is proff of the presence of a ancient place of worship dedicated to preferred shepherd divinity. |
