| The Sucevita Monastery is located on the Sucevita rivulet valley, into the village with the same name, 18 kilometers southwest from Radauti town.
The Monastery was built in the last decades of the 16th century at the expense of the whole Movila family (one of whom, Ieremia, ruled in Moldavia between 1595-1606). After his enthronement as the ruler of Moldavia in 1595, Ieremia Movila extended the church with two little porches by the church entrance, on the northern and southern sides. Ieremia Movila added the enclosing walls with towers, making the monastery like a medieval fortress. |
