The construction of the cathedral was begun well before the year 1000 and was completed according to the canons of the Romanesque style. However, over the centuries it underwent several changes. Certainly, the church probably already existed in 868, as the site of an ancient diocese, when the relics of St. Maximus were transferred. From that moment the church was dedicated to him. |
