| The dam built across the Sangro river marks the origin of Bomba´s lake. The dike was made in beaten earth, (the first of its kind in Europe) and it produces electricity which is dispatched in Rome. The building was begun in 1956 and finished in 1962. The lake is almost 7 kilometres in length, 1,5 km wide and 57,50 metres deep and, its water capacity is 4 million cubic metres. It is a focal point for tourism in the area.
The habitat of the lake allows the presence of several species of fish and the surrounding environment is rich in vegetation. In the lake lives: chub, carp, perch, tench, eels, trout. Near its banks there are tourist resorts, sports facilities and recreational, camping, restaurants and pizzerias. All year round, it is a very strong appeal for lovers of windsurfing and fishing. The lake is navigable. Thanks to the presence of various sports clubs you can practice canoeing, windsurfing, water skiing and pedal boats can be hired for a quiet walk along the lake. |
