| This wonderful monument of Prekmurje Gothic architecture and wall painting was built in 1392 as announced by the inscription in the presbytery. The excellence of the architecture of the Church in Martjanci is supplemented by the painting in the interior, the work of a famous painter from Radgona, Janez Aquila and his younger co-worker, the so called master of Martjanci Apostles. As with cathedrals from the Middle Ages, so too does the Church in Martjanci stand tall over the low surrounding houses and surasses them in height, especially with the church tower which is famous for gathering the houses under its protection. Only the tower is tall enough to defy the huge chestnut and linden trees which surround the area around the church. |
