| Lace making has been a raditional activity for centuries in Abruzzo's mountainous inland areas. Abruzzese lace has its roots here, eith the L'Aquila and Pescocostanzo styles that were famous in Renaissance times. The skills of lace makers from Pescocostanzo and Scanno are legendary, even today and although their cultural influence and technique may differ, the lace is made with remarkable precision. The Lace Museum at Pescocostanzo has valuable antique and contemporar exhibits of lace in its collection as qell as an wxcursus on learning this ancient art. The area also has a local Pillow Lace School whose objectives are to pass down and further develop this cultural heritage, safeguarding an important aspect of Abruzzo's cultural identity. |
