Further south, on Linzer Strasse, the frivolous Baroque Institut der Englischen Fräulein (aka the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is part of the religious order founded in 1706 by the English Catholic nun and pioneer in women's education Mary Ward. The institute's light-pink palatial facade, thought to be by Prandtauer, is punctuated with fluted white pilasters and scalloped niches filled with gesticulating statuary and crowned by gilded sunbursts. Inside, the tiny Institutskirche has been beautifully restored, from its magnolia stucco-work to gilded, life-size apostles. The main body is divided into two domed spaces: the lower dome features a fresco by Altomonte; the taller one, with windows, a fresco by Paul Troger.
