Description:
The Abbey of Santa Maria in Montesanto rises an isolated hill in front of Civitella del Tronto. Founded by St. Benedict of Norcia in 542 in the past has been one of the most important Benedictine abbeys in the region. The church building is a single nave. The Romanesque bell tower, was originally located at the side of the facade, now is now detached from the body of the church and is incorporated in the monastery complex. The garden features statues symbolizing all human faiths, including those in science (the astronaut).
