On the road from Piazza del Popolo goes to the station Fontecchio, about halfway through, we find the ruins of Santa Maria della Vittoria. Built on the ruins of a pagan temple dedicated to Jupiter, built by a noble Roman family settled in Aterno in the first century AD, the Church of Santa Maria is the irrefutable testimony to the continuity venerativa assume that certain places and then also maintain with the advent of religions, cults completely different (pagan and Christian). Tradition has it that the church was dedicated to St. Peter primitriva and was the parish church of the small village of the same name who participated in the XI century. the construction of Fontecchio, in 1648 the church was badly damaged by the troops of Captain Quinzi above that besieged the country and it was the victory that fonticulani reported on these which resulted in the reconstruction of the church and its change of name in Santa Maria Victory. The building has a 'unique rectangular room with large windows on the side walls and facade horizontally crowned very slender. The roof has completely collapsed as well as covers and part of the walls of adjoining rooms on the table back and sides of the presbytery. The excavation and restoration of the church, now in place, the base of the building showed a perfectly preserved Roman base on which, in later times, was apprima accurate set of masonry blocks of hewn stone on a wall this more chaotic and less cared for, due to a first extension of the church, and finally, on the latter, the elevation refers to the seventeenth century. Inside and outside the walls of the church are included numerous carved stones with inscriptions and carvings, particularly important is the inscription transcribed by the archaeologist De Nino that made it possible to identify the origin of the name corresponding to the current near Fagnano homonymous village. It is unlikely that the actual excavations bring to light new findings that allow us to further clarify the origins of the temple and some centers that gravitated.
