| The convent of San Giovanni della Penna Order of the Knights was readjusted at the end of the sixteenth century to accommodate the Carmelite friars. They remained there until 1809 after which the Church passed from hands in hands until 1929, when he settled there Barnabites fathers.
The church was completed in the early seventeenth century, and was dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The facade has a lower part covered with bosses, original seventeenth century, neoclassical and a portal. The bell tower was built in neoclassical style in 1863 and designed by Giuseppe Monetti. Inside the church you can admire numerous paintings including the famous Madonna della Fonte, a table of a Byzantine style dating from the fourteenth century, the legend has arrived on the back of a big fish in the Holy Saturday of 1234.
Among the other paintings recall the Crucifixion of Francesco Marchese, or St. Anne teaches the Virgin to read the same artist. Finally there is the precious Madonna del Carmine and Child by Nicola Benzene dated 1774. |
