| The first document that mentions this complex, with a church and adjacent convent, dated 1162. The monastery housed Benedictine monks, and was originally dedicated to Santo Stefano. In 1861, with the suppression of the monastic orders, changes its name to the current one. The church contains in 1272 those that traditionally are the remains of St. Ruggiero, the city patron, whose bust silver is carried in procession on December 30 of each year. Currently the monastery is home to the Benedictine nuns celestine. |
