| The temple has a military structure, leading some to believe that the building might even be an extension of an existing fort, turned in the first half of the sixteenth century church, consecrated in 1582. During the recent restoration work, archaeologists have discovered the remains of an early medieval crypt, which could be the original sacred site. The interior has a single nave with a vault, then expanded with the Chapel of the Sacrament on the right. A rose window dominates the facade and the tympanum of the portal there is a statue of an angel, the "holy misiriedde". On the walls we can see ancient frescoes (XVI-XVII c.) Adorning the baroque altars, while an artistic wooden machinery (built in 1783) is the background, together with the choir. Among the most important paintings include works by D. Carella, O. Just and G. White. Beside the church is the Oratory of Purgatory (the former seat of the Brotherhood of Death), built in 1701 and has a frescoed ceiling with baroque decoration, attributed to G. manduriano White. |
