| The Sanctuary of Mater Domini stands in a dominant position in the center of Laterza in place of the ancient rock cut church.
It has a classic style with late-Baroque alterations, evident in the dome of the tower, and altars in marble inside of the nave. The plant has a Latin cross, showing six vaulted chapels of considerable merit, embellished with friezes of garlands of flowers and golden leaves. The vestments, as well as altars, statues and paintings, tiles are decorated with polychrome majolica art produced in the local factories in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Valuable the washbasin in the sacristy depicting the Mater Domini (1726). To 1703 dates the only round brick placed in the seventeenth and eighteenth century stoup depicting the Crucifixion. In the transept is the crypt, the ancient cave church with inside frescoes of Byzantine origin. |
