Description:
This is the oldest Church of Laterza although some experts believe that there are some older. It began as a Benedictine Abbey by the will of the Countess Matilda of Matera in the twelfth century. The portal is surmounted by a lancet window. The temple has three naves, aisles are lit by two roof windows. During the restoration, some nineteenth-century Baroque elements (cantonal pinnacles) were added to the outside. Where is now the sacristy once stood a garden with high walls. The church was consecrated on April 27, 1112.
