Description:
The church of S. Jerome is located in the most concentrated of the rock settlement, on the slopes of the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace. Typological analysis and metrological trace the excavation to the twelfth century with a later phase devoted to the wall paintings that may be considered completed in the fourteenth century. The basin is divided into two trapezoidal liturgical environments: the rectangular room with two spans, with niches along the walls and the side chapel to the left, the environment in which some researchers have identified the area designed for women. Constant is the use along the arches and niches of the iconostasis of the ring element that denotes a rare attention to general architectural decoration. The state of deterioration of the structure resulted in the loss of the fresco cycle of which remains a Virgin and Child. There are animals of graffiti and inscriptions in the presbyterian area.
