| The basilica is located in the city center, along the road called Via San Bernardino, a few steps from Corso Vittorio Emanuele It was erected, with the adjoining convent, between 1454 and 1472 in honor of St. Bernardino of Siena. The remains of the saint are preserved in the basilica in a special mausoleum.
The earthquake of 6 April 2009 has severely damaged the apse and bell tower
The first phase of work began in 1454 and ended in 1472 with the construction of the dome, which allowed the movement of remains inside the basilica.
