The church of S. Agostino, formerly dedicated to S. Leonardo, was built together with the adjoining monastery in the thirteenth century by the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, Herman von Salza, the friend and adviser of Frederick II of Swabia, buried under the floor. The church was destroyed by Hungarian army in 1350, was restored dada Francis II of Dodge and he was entrusted to the Discalced Augustinians who dedicated it to St. Augustine. The main portal, of the Gothic style, was declared a national monument. It has a pointed arch with rich decorations: floral crown seven bands, a lunette carved in bas-relief depicting Christ between S. Remigio and S. Leonardo. On either side of the portal are still visible two lions, the remains of an old porch has disappeared. On the side elevation there is a second Gothic doorway, walled up, which exhibits some coats of arms: the eagle with spread wings related to the Teutonic, the lion rampant, the arms of Andria and Angevin lilies. Internally, the church has one nave and chancel at the bottom of which stands the high altar of marble of the eighteenth century. Among the partitions of the altar in polychrome marble, there are three bas-reliefs, one depicting the hermit Gregorio da Varucolo, the second with the Blessed Augustine, General of the Augustinian order who died in the thirteenth century, and finally one that depicts Tommaso Arbuatti Picentino, who died in seventeenth century. Outstanding are the organ located in the apse and the choir in walnut, built by, Giuseppe Gigli from Andria. To further enhance the interior of the church, some frescoes with stories of St. Augustine, and others with Our Lady holding the Child on her knee and feeds him, the first is left on the altar while the second is near the crucifix. Among the paintings, a fine exhibition of Jesus Christ in the Temple.
