| The church of San Michele in Triglie (between Statte and Crispiano) was built at the beginning of the '700 by a member of the Bitetto family, owners in the adjacent farm. In this place, according to tradition, stood the ancient greek sanctuary of Diana Trigliantina. The church is inserted into the many evidences of the worship of St. Michael in the Taranto's territory, in one of the essential elements of its settlement and road structure. Next to it passed an important route for crossing the Murgia. All around lay a vast cave settlement, gravitating around an important place of medieval cult, dedicated to St. Julian. |
