| The church of S. Maria del Carmine was built in a suburban area by Flavio de Excelsis nobleman, who donated it to the Carmelites; it was began in 1707, and was completed in 1753. During the government of G. Murat, in the early nineteenth century, was used as a military infirmary; it was restored and embellished was consecrated by the Bishop Cosenza in 1840. It is accessed via a large porch in the neoclassical style, preceded by a long staircase, built in 1773. The interior has a single nave with altars on both sides. It has a small late-Baroque bell tower built in 1772 and renovated in 1854. The adjoining convent of the Carmelites is now the seat of the Diocesan Seminary. |
