The Co-Cathedral was founded in 1073 by the Norman count Peter II, who dedicated it to St. Peter. The building was completed in 1295, when it was consecrated by Bishop Leo. Over the centuries the building has undergone several changes, until the restoration work carried out between 1965 and 1972 have removed many of the baroque and have recovered the original Romanesque-Gothic style. The facade has three portals; the middle one is decorated with three-band shoots and leaves and is framed by a small porch with columns, griffins and acanthus-leaf capitals. Of the two lateral portals were only the original arches supported by brackets with lion's head. Two double and four single windows complement the modern façade with a baroque window. On the right side is a large doorway, enriched by the statues of St. Peter and St. Paul. The interior has three naves, and the style is Baroque. The crypt is also altered, has ten columns and there are the relics of the three local patron saints. Between the eighteenth and nineteenth century were the current open windows of the nave was demolished the roof of the galleries and the central dome was built. The presbytery has placed a precious wooden choir in solid walnut with 38 stalls. It comes from the Abbey of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Andria, and presents scenes carved with scenes from the history of the Benedictine order.
