| Church of St John in Castro corresponds to the chapel of the Norman castle.
It was probably built in the second half of the twelfth century and was originally isolated, and only later became part of the Castle's walls. After decades of neglect, the palace chapel of S. John Castro was recently restored and freed from all the modern superstructure, and it is now in the original Romanesque style. Externally, it is covered with smooth ashlar stone with a Romanesque facade gable with blind arches and a bell tower on axis. Inside it has a single nave and a pointed barrel vault. Originally the church was perhaps accompanied by a hospital for the care of pilgrims in the Holy Land, traced to some adjacent structures.
