| The discovery of the caves of S. Cross was made by Francesco Saverio Majellaro. Subsequently other excavations were led by prof. Luigi Cardini. Inside the cave was found a femur Neanderthal associated with Pleistocene fauna were collected and levels of the Upper Paleolithic and Neolithic many fragments of pottery.
The caves contain within them a series of panels illustrating the evolution of the human species and climate sull'ambientazione of different periods. Moreover, there is shown a cast of human femur attributed to an adult individual of Homo neanderthalensis and a mat made of vegetable fibers of the Neolithic. |
