| The first Capuchin was founded in 1550 in Sulmona, about three miles from town, at the church of Santa Maria della Croce then called the Crowned, the convent, however, was left between 1658 and 1660 because of the unhealthy climate.
In 1885 the Capuchins settled outside Porta Napoli at the church of San Francesco di Paola, buying with the help of benefactors of the adjoining monastery in ruins, whose foundation goes back to the years 1620-1662.
From 1933 to 1962 the convent of San Francesco di Paola was the seat of a Seraphic Seminary. |
