The church of Saint John the Baptist (San Giovanni Battista) is in the centre of Piazza Municipio in Acquarica del Capo. It was built in 1828 on the site of an older church which dated back to the 16th century and which was also dedicated to John the Baptist. The façade has an archway embellished with small arches and surmounted by a coat of arms with an inscription and by a window with a semi circular arch. In the upper half, in an alcove, is the statue of Saint John. In the external back wall of the building a medieval inscription in Greek remains which is evidence of the existence of an older place of worship in the area. Inside, on the left wall of the right hand transept there is a painting showing the Deposition of the Body of Christ. Beneath the altar is a papier-mâché statue of a dead Christ, above this is the organ. The vault of the presbytery is embellished with two oval frescoes portraying the Holy Trinity and Our Lady of the Assumption, next to these, on two paintings of the same shape, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Lucy are depicted.
