General information
Pajarone
Secular building
no
The Pajarone (a conical structure typical of this area) of Acquarica is a large dry stone building at the bottom of the slopes to the North of the town. The round building has three floors, which they were able to build by carefully positioning stones of different sizes together, without using any type of cement. The thickness of the walls and the particular cone shape of the structure guarantee its stability. It would have offered peasants or farm hands a warm shelter in the winter and a cool place to rest in the summer. In previous centuries, this type of building was used as a place for storing farm tools, animals and for farm hands to rest in when figs were being harvested, vines tended or other harvesting work.
