| The church named for the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Trasfigurazione di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo) is in the historic centre of Poggiardo.
The building as it stands today dates back to 1734, although it was built on top of an older church, one which dated back perhaps to the Late Medieval period.
The baroque style façade is divided into two orders by a frame of leaves which surround the head of an angel.
In the lower part there is an entranceway surmounted by an emblem, a crowned ox.
The top part has a circular window flanked on either side by a niche.
At the back of the building is a bell tower.
The building is in the shape of a Latin cross.
Inside along each of the longer sides there are three chapels covered by elliptical domes.
Among the altars within these (which are particularly fine) are those dedicated to S. Luigi Gonzaga, to S.Oronzo and the Altar of S. Giuseppe of Copertino, a saint who worked in Poggiardo for some years.
Illuminated by the light of sixteen large windows, the ceiling is decorated with elegant ornamental stucco work, dating back to the late 16th century.
Among the objects conserved in the church it is worth mentioning the wooden chancel in the central apse, with two oil paintings above it of the mannerist school of the 16th century, portraying the Crucifix and Our Lady of Sorrows; three shrines, a chasuble and two silk cowls from the late 18th century.
