| The church of Saint Anthony was built in 1781 on the site of an existing building built for the will of John Mastrangelo Mary, Orthodox archpriest of the country. The original building, dedicated to St. Christopher, already existed in 1538 and was remodeled several times. Towards the middle of the seventeenth century, underwent a major renovation and was enriched with numerous altars. Around the middle of the eighteenth century, revealing too small to accommodate the entire population, the church was rebuilt.
The new building has a beautiful facade in local stone divided into two orders, remained unfinished for lack of funds. Set back is the square bell tower.
Inside the church, the main altar was built recovering oldest parts of the altar. Above it, there is a wooden statue of St. Christopher. |
