| The mother church of Uggiano, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalen, is the monument which most represents the small town.
The building is large and in the shape of a Latin cross, surmounted by a dome, which can be seen from a long way off.
The façade, divided up into three orders, was finished in 1775. The first order, at the bottom, is embellished with three doorways, a central window and two side windows; further up you can see the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul on either side, and Saint Mary Magdalen in the middle.
Inside you can see the stucco decorations with rococo style motifs, elegant altars, and some canvasses representing the episodes of St. Mary Magdalene’s life made by Oronzo Tiso. |
