Description:
The oldest part of S.Nicola Magno dates back to the 6th century. It was enlarged in 1590 and assumed the present aspect in 1672. Today the parish church only consists of a wide nave and a chorus coming out from works carried out at different times. The original nucleus probably was a small temple consecrated to Janus whose only remains are the structure corresponding to the part of the bay set before the main altar. The extension works started in 1577 with the building of the bay set to the South-West side. The church was finished in 1672 with the bell tower, the apse and the clock turret. After the collapse of the vault of the bay next to the old small church, in 1938, the vault was rebuilt and the new bell tower was erected. The seventeenth-century organ by Olgiati is of particular value.
