| The church of Assunta is a baroque style building situated on the outskirts of Specchia’s old town, near the old town gateway, known as Porta Lecce or Porta del Foggiaro.
The church dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, the same period as other religious buildings in Specchia such as the Mother church and the church of Sant’Antonio with the Domenican convent.
The original building would have only had one nave, but the building was extended during the 18th century and the façade redone, it was given niches which still today have statues of saints in them.
Inside there are two lines of stone pillars, decorated with Venetian style stucco work, which divide the space into three naves. The triumphal arches are embellished with floral motifs.
