| The San Rocco Sanctuary is in the centre of Torrepaduli, a small annex to Ruffano. It was first built in the mid 1500s and enlarged in 1738, in particular the main altar; later, in 1875 the mosaic floor was laid in the sacristy. The façade is divided up into three parts which mirror the naves inside. In the centre portion is the main doorway, surmounted by a semicircular window, with two niches on either side. On the two side portions there are two secondary entrances. The inside of the church, divided into three naves, has the main altar on the wall opposite the doorway; here there is a painting dated 1851, painted by Giovanni Grassi, portraying the Holy Performer of Miracles among people suffering from the plague, surmounted by a Latin epigraph. There is also a statue of San Rocco, in a casement of wood and glass. Rites and a picturesque festival bring back memories of the regular pilgrimages that were made to this sanctuary. The festival is held on the 16th August in the square in front of the church. |
