| The Sanctuary of the Virgin of Graces in Sanarica is an excellent example of Baroque architecture in this area. The church, as it stands today, was built in 1712 enlarging on an older church which was perhaps medieval. The baroque style façade has three doors corresponding to three naves inside. On the main door there is a stone stature of the Virgin of Graces. Inside, along the left wall, in a small chapel, there is a Venetian wooden stature of the Virgin of the Graces, made in Naples reaching the church in Sanarica in 1732. The Virgin is portrayed with the Child in her arms; both have a gold crown on their heads and there is an angel on either side. The altars on the side walls and the vault are in rococo style. Of particular artistic merit are the paintings portraying the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Virgin Birth. On the main altar an effigy of the Virgin is frescoed in Byzantine style, the Archbishop Francesco De Aste placed a silver crown upon this, as a votive offering. The organ together with several inlaid wooden cupboards and a stone basin in the sacristy can be dated to 1752. There are also numerous liturgical objects in gold in the church. |
