The main body of the castle presents features which are typical of the civil building of the late Renaissance. The battlemented tower at the back has the typical characters of the defensive structures of the previous centuries. Palazzo Comi, in Lucugnano di Tricase, contains a museum of the same name and the Provincial Museum. It was the home of the famous Salento poet Girolamo Comi, a great patron of the arts in this area. This is where the Salentine Academy met, attended by the most important intellectuals and men of letters of the time, including Vittorio Bodini, Luigi Corvaglia, Oreste Macrì and Vittorio Pagano. The Palazzo was built in the late 19th century and early 20th century next to the castle. From the terrace you can look out over the landscape of inland Salento, the slopes of the “Serre di Specchia ed Alessano”, the medieval centres of Specchi, Montesano Salentino, the Tricase area, the Valonia oak and the sea. As well as its pleasant garden, the building also has an internal courtyard where there is a palm tree which is at least a hundred years old. From the courtyard you can go into the large stables, still complete with a trough for food, where horses and carriages were kept. In the “Comi Museum”, on the first floor you can find the library and the writings of this “Salentine” poet.
