| The Palazzo dei Principi Gallone or the House of the Gallone Princes is one of the most important buildings in the the town of Tricase. Certain features and its impressive size are extremely expressive of the moment of transformation that Salento underwent in the 15th and 16th centuries, from being a castle, to being a palace or stately home. Today the Palazzo is made up of three basic parts: the Tower, the Keep and the Main Building, representing different phases in its structural and historical evolution. The Tower and the Keep belong to the oldest part, probably built at the end of the Early Medieval period. Inside the tower you can visit the prisons, where you can see the scratches made by the prisoners who had to serve a sentence there. |
