| The Church of the Immaculate Conception (just outside what remains of the original city walls of Cutrofiano) was built between 1764 and 1772 and designed by architect Felice De Palma. It is very typical of the late Baroque style in this area. The building has an octagonal base. The façade is embellished at the top with an elaborate Bourbon coat of arms, above the central window. On either side of this there are two niches with shells, each holding a statue, one of Saint Rocco the other of Saint Filippo Neri. A mono-cuspidate pediment finishes the central façade and has a statue of the Virgin Mary standing on the top. The inside, which has been recently renovated is a single large octagonal room with 17th century paintings on the walls painted by Saverio Lillo. |
