| The main church, dedicated to Santa Maria della Neve, is in the old centre of Cutrofiano, inside the town walls which once encircled the town. The original layout dates back to the 16th century but the church has been renovated or restructured on numerous occasions, most of the building dates back to 1892. The oldest part of the church is probably medieval and can be seen in the side altar. The façade, in neoclassical style, is divided into two orders. Access to the church is through the main door or the two secondary symmetrical doors which correspond to the naves inside. On the outside there is a bell tower whose dome is completely covered by majolica tiles. Inside the three naves are divided up by powerful Doric columns of lecce stone. The six altars that line the side walls were conserved from the 16th century church, as was the apse and the sacristy. They were commissioned by the feudal family of Cutrofiano, the Filomarini family. The main altar is dedicated to Saint Antonio of Padua, the patron saint of the town. The beautiful painting by the artist Francesco Solimeno dates from 1747. |
