| This stately home is in the old centre of the town of Salve, not far from Piazza Concordia. Built on two floors, with arches on the ground floor and a finely decorated loggia on the first floor, it tends towards a Spanish style. Inside you can admire the garden and the beautiful 18th century frescoed vaults. The building is now home to some cultural initiatives, including the recent exhibition on what was called “Salve's treasure” (Tesoretto di Salve), put on thanks to the co-financing of the GAL “Capo S. Maria di Leuca” organisation. This was about a group of old silver coins found in the Salve area in the summer of 1930. The exhibition takes the visitor into the world of coins, looking at their history, production techniques and the value they had for commercial exchange in the olden days. The coins on display are replicas of the originals, which came from the mints of the main cities of Magna Grecia and some cities in north eastern Greece. |
