The Church of San Lorenzo Nuovo, built in the sixteenth century, was constructed on a medieval church. In the seventeenth century the building was enlarged and was built chapels of St. Anne (now dedicated to St. Joseph) and the Virgin of the Rosary. The main facade was made in the eighteenth century and was flanked by two bell towers. On the gateway an inscription was discovered, in which it is written that the original church was dedicated to Santa Maria della Pietà (1547). The building was dedicated to San Lorenzo Nuovo in the nineteenth century when the old medieval church of San Lorenzo fell into ruin. The steeple of St. Lawrence, in leccese stone, was realized by the masters Michele, Antonio and Raffaele from Casarano in 1869, in memory of the escaped danger from cholera. It is composed of two parts: the base in Baroque style and the statues of the saint. The steeple has recently been cleaned and restored, bringing the stone back to its natural colour. The four red flags, hoisted at the four angles of the column and replaces every 10 Augusts, day devoted to the Saint, symbolize his martyrdom.
