| The Church and the Convent of St. Mary of the Angels were built in the 16th century on the soil given by the lord of Casarano, Gurello Filomarini. The origin of the construction is related to a miracle wrought by Our Lady of Leuca in Salve in 1569.
The building, originally with a single nave, underwent several changes over the centuries, including the addition of two aisles. Currently, the original nucleus is in late Baroque style with some parts, especially in the apse, manieristic. The adjacent monastery is the seat of the Friars Minor since 1897. |
