The Parish Church dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption is considered the mother church of Galatone and was built between 1591 and 1595 on the site of an ancient church. Inside, the church is laid out in a Latin cross style with four chapels each side and houses the altars that were painted by Donato Antonio D’Orlando and an 18th Century copy of the Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian created by the artist Mattia Preti, made originally for the Neapolitan church of Santa Maria dei Sette Dolori.
