Description:
The Sanctuary of Crocifisso della Pietà is a beautiful Baroque church built between the end of the 15th Century and the early 16th Century. It was erected in the place where a previous building stood, and which was also dedicated to the Holy Crucifix. The building has a Latin cross with four chapels on each side of the nave and a sumptuous high altar in the presbytery. Inside the decorations tell about miracles by the Crucifix of Mercy and the theme of Saint Elena finding the Cross. In the sacristy is the masterpiece of ‘Handing of keys to Saint Peter’ by the artist Bartolomeo Vimercati dated 1646 and which is a remnant of the first church.
