| The Crypt of San Michele Arcangelo is allocated to the farm "Li Monaci" in the south-east of Copertino. The structure dates back to 1314, when reigned Roberto D'Anjou. IT is a classical example of underground construction for worshipping, which container two alters dug in the rocks and a fresco depicting the annunciation. Inside there is a registration dedicatory detected for the first time in 1982 by scholar André Jacob: the laura was built for "Sour devotion of the knight, his wife and his children" and made 'by the hand of Nicholas and his son Demetrius to Soleto”. The building, which took place two centuries after the iconoclastic persecution, had to perform functions not only worship but also as refuge for the monks in time of danger. |
